Flint’s Poet Laureate Presents A Virtual Children’s Poetry Show
At The James E. Kennedy Family Life Center
“I am so excited to perform for the children! I’m thrilled that we’re broadcasting the performance virtually, so that ALL children can participate—both the young and the old,” said Semaj Brown.
Flint, MI —The James E. Kennedy Family Life Center is known as a dynamic community center in Flint, with innovative programming. The executive director, Raphael D. Read, is bringing in Flint’s Poet Laureate, Semaj Brown for a special Poetry Show she created exclusively for children. Semaj Brown is known for not only the poetry she writes, but for her dramatic theatrical performances. “We’re looking forward to Mrs. Brown’s presentation. The people think that this is just for the young children, but her ability to bring characters to life, will be a special treat for all of us big kids as well!” states Read.
The book portion of the Children’s Poetry Show is sponsored by the Genesee County Medical Society Alliance (GCMSA). The GCMSA purchased over $500 of children’s poetry books for the Poetry Pod Project, the civic initiative of Poet Laureate, Semaj Brown. Zeta Beta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and The Pierians Inc, Flint Chapter are partners to The Poetry Pod Project. All of these organizations have come together to help ensure the success of this special programming being presented by the James E. Kennedy Family Life Center. The Center has an on-going reading program for children to encourage literacy and to enhance the education of the children of Flint.
