“They are Reverse Waterfalls Standing Erect!” ~ Semaj Brown • The poem grew. It grew into an invitation to perform for the Flint Institute of Arts Event, Meet the Women of a New Tribe, and it elicited an invitation from human rights icon and professor emeritus Gloria House, PhD to perform the poem at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History to benefit the Detroit Freedom Schools Movement and the Museum. The poem grew into a booklet complete with appendix to be utilized in education, a wonderful tool for teaching poetry, history, and literary art of social justice concurrently or separately. It grew a foreword by esteemed writer Aurora Harris, and back cover notes of Marissa Pierce. It grew into a recording at the Flint Boys and Girls Club, Chief Executive Officer, Tauzzari Robinson, Director of Programming and Operations, Amber Miller with engineer Pharlon Randall working technical creative magic. It grew into a debut for Dr. James Brown’s invention, the Arborlune™ instrument which evokes mellow tones from other dimensions, part string part percussion, totally inspired genius made from a fallen tree branch in our backyard.
